Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has confirmed that, thankfully, no fatalities have been reported following a significant earthquake that struck the Balıkesir province. The immediate priority for authorities is assessing structural damage and ensuring the safety of residents.

In a swift response to the seismic event, local authorities have opened public buildings for citizens needing shelter. To facilitate damage assessment and ensure public safety, a one
- day suspension of educational activities has been announced across the province.
- Emergency shelters have been established in mosques, sports halls, and schools.
- All schools in Balıkesir have suspended classes for one day.
- A total of 504 emergency calls have been received.
- Of these, 25 calls specifically reported building damage.
Damage Assessment and Emergency Calls
The 112 Emergency Call Center has been inundated with reports from concerned citizens. Officials are carefully evaluating each call to prioritize response efforts.
Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that all reports of damage are being investigated individually, and rescue and assessment teams are actively working in the affected areas to ensure a comprehensive response.
